Many people, even if they play IMVU, may not know that IMVU stands for Instant Messaging Virtual Universe. It's easy to see why the creators shortened it to "IMVU" isn't it?

So what exactly is IMVU? In short, it's a 3D social network that is very customizable, the main focus is choosing your avatar, to portray who you are in this online universe. You can then chat to other people from all over the globe. Your are able to customize your avatar to stand out by purchasing a non "Guest_" name, purchasing virtual credits and much more.

What Is unique about IMVU is the original 3D chat rooms. There are an abundance of IM Chat services on the internet, but this one stands out from the crowd, giving you the ability to re create yourself in the online world. One of the only real downsides to be found is that the chat bubbles can get a little confusing at times.

System Requirements

While IMVU is not very system intensive, (meaning almost any computer can run it), it requires access to a PC or a Mac computer with broadband internet access. IMVU Download suggests a PC or Mac that matches or is better than the one listed below:

IMVU Sign Up

To be able to download IMVU, you must first create an account.  IMVU require you to give them some of your personal information, such as your name, email address and date of birth. During the IMVU Sign Up process you are able to create and customize your avatar. Don't worry too much about getting it right, as you are able to come back to this and change things later. Once you have created your account you are able to download the IMVU client and start playing!

Protecting your Identity on IMVU

Before you download IMVU and go crazy making new friends, you should be advised that not everybody is who they say they are online. You could be talking to a 57 year old man that has bad intentions. It is advised that you never give out your personal information, such as your address, to strangers on IMVU or any online chat service for that matter. In other words, its fine to make friends on IMVU, but don't be naive, there are some dangerous people out there! Not everybody is dangerous, but some are.

If you are getting along really well with someone, and you want to become friends with them in real life, a good idea would be to video chat with them on Skype first, to make sure they are who they say they are! If you do decide to meet up in person, IMVU Download suggests a very public and open location.
